Description

EDM Tap Remover SD-1000D and SD-600D

The SD-1000D and SD-600D EDM Tap Remover is designed for the fast and precise removal of broken taps and cutting tools from workpieces without causing damage to the surrounding material.

Using the principle of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), the machine erodes the broken tool through electrical discharge rather than mechanical force. This ensures that the workpiece is not subjected to stress, protecting the original threaded hole and surrounding structure.

The machine features a compact and lightweight design, making it easy to transport and suitable for both workshop and on-site repairs.

An accurate positioning system combined with a fast workpiece clamping mechanism allows users to quickly align the electrode and remove broken tools efficiently. The system also supports multi-angle processing, allowing the machine to work on parts in different orientations.

The integrated adaptive control system makes parameter adjustments simple and user-friendly, enabling operators to quickly configure the machine for different tool diameters and materials.

The SD-1000D and SD-600D is widely used in industries such as machining, mold manufacturing, automotive repair, aerospace, and maintenance workshops, where broken taps or drills must be removed without damaging expensive components.

Applications

Portable EDM Tap Removal Machines

Portable EDM tap removers are designed for fast, on-site tool removal.

Advantages include:

  • Compact and lightweight

  • Easy positioning on workpieces

  • Fast setup

  • Suitable for workshop and field use

These machines allow operators to recover expensive parts instead of scrapping them.

How EDM Removes a Broken Tap/Tool

The EDM process uses a copper or brass electrode and electrical sparks to gradually erode the broken tool.

Step 1 – Install the Electrode

The correct electrode size is installed in the EDM machine.

Step 2 – Align the Electrode

The machine is positioned so the electrode is aligned with the broken tap/tool.

Step 3 – Apply Cooling Water

Water is directed over the electrode and the broken tool to cool the process and flush away debris. Optionally create a dam around hole to submerge the electrode and aid in flushing debris

Step 4 – Start the EDM Process

The machine generates controlled electrical sparks between the electrode and the broken tool.

Step 5 – Spark Erosion

The sparks gradually erode the broken tool material, leaving the surrounding workpiece untouched.

Step 6 – Remove the Remaining Fragments

Once the EDM process has removed the core of the broken tap, the remaining fragments can easily be removed.

Suitable for removing broken:
